Examples

a|b in a cell is written as a\|b so it does not split the column.

Markdown tables cannot contain multiple lines in a cell, so line breaks are written as <br> (supported by GitHub). A header row is required by the format; if your data has none, an empty header row is added. Cell formatting and merged cells cannot be expressed.
